When a few Kangaroo die hards approached the stable to purchase a horse all the boys were looking for is some fun but there is definitely more in store for this lovely 3yo called Matesy named after a legend North Melbourne man they called Macca ! The bond and friendship formed forced the syndicate to name the horse after Macca who has passed away and the win was very sentimental after he impressively won his Maiden at Ararat at a juicy price of 30/1 which caused emotional scenes at the track.
Purchased at the June Magic Millions Yearling Sales by Cameron Cooke Bloodstock on behalf of the Stable the son of Rock of Gibraltar has always shown nice ability from day one when he was broken in at Shipton Lodge in Sydney . "He was such an attractive yearling (pictured) and the recommendation was strong and the stable was thrilled to land the horse after some good competition in the ring and it was nice to secure a nice horse from Erinvale Thoroughbreds who do a tremendous job and Matesy looks destined for a nice future as he has a nice pedigree and plenty of scope for improvement". stated Racing Manger Manny Gelagotis.
"Taking him away on a little trip has made the horse mature and what I liked about the win was he settled in a lovely spot and looked the winner a long way from home and it was very pleasing at this early stage of his career to see him win like that for some great owners and I like this horse going forward and think he has plenty of upside as he gets older with more racing experience". Said Peter Gelagotis.
