Stable star Hvasstan began his new racing career under Tony Gollan over the unsuitable sprint distance of 1350m in great style at Doomben over the weekend getting home hard for 6th placing.

"He was a little tardy away and was back in an ackward spot behind however when daylight presented itself in the straight the horse let down like a good galloper and the stable was very happy pre race and more satisfied post race after seeing him let down like that" said Gollan

"He missed a trial and this race was always a top up for him and his recent work and this run have given me the confidance there is a good race still in the horse and he is an impressive style of animal and looks terrific and is feeling well and just continues to improve up here which is a great sign" said Gollan

Hvasstan is well known to Australian racing in Victoria for his great 3yo season where he raced in the best of company and was a Group 3 winner of the Norman Robinson Stakes and had 2 luckless runs in Group 1 races where he finished 4th in both the Vic Derby & Aust Guineas.

"Hvasstan will be set for the listed 1600m race on BTC Cup day on the 9th March where he should find the race more to his liking and we expect sharp improvement and he appears in for a great winter campaign and will be kept to the 1600-2000m range which appears his best distances for success" said Gollan

Hvasstan will retire to Clear Mountain Fairview Stud this season at a service fee of $4,400.00 and being by the great Fastnet Rock will sure to attract plenty of attention from QLD breeders.
